UN Foundation's Ted Turner to Receive Rainforest Alliance Lifetime Achievement Award

Washington, D.C., (May 16, 2007) —

Ted Turner, founder of the United Nations Foundation and chairman of the Turner Foundation, Inc., has been selected by the Rainforest Alliance—an important force in the biodiversity conservation movement—for a Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Rainforest Alliance first honored Turner with a Green Globe award in 1995. According to the Rainforest Alliance, Turner was selected for his ongoing commitment to conservation, and his influential work as a philanthropist and environmentalist. He is the founder of the United Nations Foundation, which together with Expedia, Inc. leads the World Heritage Alliance (WHA), a coalition of travel industry members dedicated to promoting sustainable tourism to UNESCO World Heritage sites, and the Friends of World Heritage, an online, grassroots advocacy campaign promoting responsible travel to World Heritage sites.

Mr. Turner also chairs the Turner Foundation, Inc., which supports efforts to improve air and water, develop sustainable energy, protect wildlife and create policies to curb population growth, and is chairman of Turner Enterprises Inc., which sustainably manages the two million acres of land Turner owns in 14 western U.S. states and in Argentina.
