Founding Partner of the World Heritage Alliance and is committed to promoting and preserving World Heritage sites through sustainable tourism by:
- Implementing the World Heritage Alliance principles
- Participating in staff training programs
- Educating customers about World Heritage
Through its World Heritage micro-site, Expedia has opened new doors to inform and educate travelers. Interactive maps, WH trip planning tools, and names of all WHA members make this site a rich resource for those interested in learning more about World Heritage and responsible travel opportunities.
- Supporting community development around World Heritage sites
By contributing straight grants and matching grants (of $50,000/year) to the FOWH Fund for community sustainable tourism and conservation projects around WH sites.
- Engaging employees to support the local community
Expedia has conducted three employee volunteer programs that have allowed employees to work side-by-side with community-based initiatives near World Heritage sites in Mexico and Dominica.
- Supporting the United Nations in its efforts
To encourage sustainable tourism and the protection of World Heritage sites through the UNESCO World Heritage Convention.
